The Light in the Piazza

A musical written by Craig Lucas and composed by Adam Guettel about a developmentally disabled young woman and her mother who travel to Italy for a summer where the young woman falls in love.

The newspaper that Senor Nacarelli is often seen reading. The front and back pages were made to look like an authentic 1950s newspaper from Florence.

A British flag used by a tour guide. This was made by gluing printed images of the British flag around a long wooden dowel.

A brochure for the Uffizi Gallery which Margaret and Clara visit. This was made by printing photos of the cover of a book about the Uffizi Gallery and cutting it to size with blank pieces of paper inside for filler.

Some of the many ties displayed in the Nacarelli tie shop. The ties were borrowed from the costume department and laid in the display boxes by myself and the set designer.

This tie shop display case was built in house by our crew of stage hands. It was filled by the set designer and myself with displays of ties, various notebooks, and fabric scissors.

This chair cushion has been used in the tie shop by Signor Nacarelli for years. It was bought new and I made it look worn by removing much of the stuffing from inside it.

A bistro table. The base was borrowed from MSU Denver, the top is wood and was cut and attached by the stage hands. Both pieces base were painted by me. The glass wine coaster on top came from amazon.

An Italian Lira. Images of the front and back of these bills were printed from the internet and glued together to recreate the money.

The hotel vanity Margaret sits at while talking to Roy. This came from stock, the original mirror and drawer were removed and the green vanity was painted white by myself and my intern.

The hotel bed that Clara sleeps in. The bed frame came from Wayfair, the sheets from Walmart, and the blanket and pillowcase from Overstock.

The Chair that Margaret sits in at the vanity. The wood was painted brown by me while the cushion was left in its original red color.

The bedside table used in the hotel room. This came from the Brass Armadillo and was painted white by me.

A wine decanter with red wine used when Clara is preparing to marry Fabrizio. This wine needed to be thrown in a performers face so it was made out of Vitamin Water with a bit of food coloring in order to not stain her skin.

The glasses used to drink the wine. The director specifically asked for stemless glasses to reduce the risk of them being knocked over and spilled.

The marriage certificate signed by Clara and Fabrizio at the end of the show. This was pulled from our existing stock of paper props.
