Die Fledermaus

An operetta composed by Johann Strauss II about a doctor who seeks revenge on a friend for a prank that was pulled on him years before.

The bench that Dr Falke falls asleep on in the overture leading to Eisenstein’s prank on him. This bench came from stock and was modified and painted by our stagehands.

The letter that Dr Falke writes to Eisenstein’s wife Rosalind inviting her to the party in act 2. The paper came from Office Depot and I scribbled on the page to make it look like it had writing.

The letter Ida writes to her sister Adele, Eisenstein’s maid, inviting her to the party in act 2.

The desk used in the overture for writing the letters to Rosalind and Adele. This desk came from an antique store in Central City.

The dress box that Falke gives to Rosalind containing the letter inviting her to the party in act 2 and the costume he tells her to wear to stay undercover.

A replica version of the dress and mask that Rosalind wears to the party in act 2. These were borrowed from the costume department.

The briefcase used by Dr Blind. This came from stock and had a small piece of wood placed in the bottom to help it stand up.

The plate and fake Sauerkraut that was part of Eisenstein’s dinner in act 1. The plate is from amazon and the Sauerkraut was made from a fake head of lettuce that I cut up and glued back together using spray adhesive.

The handcuffs used to arrest Alfred in act 1. These came from stock but were later replaced with a pair from Walmart after the original pair broke.

The large ottomans used during the party in act 2. These came with the Virginia Opera rental.

One of the music stands used for the string quartet at the party. These were borrowed from MSU Denver and painted gold by my intern.

The sheet music for the musicians in act 2. This is the actual music that is played by the orchestra.

One of the violins used by the string quartet in act 2. This violin came from stock was painted to match the other instruments by my intern.

The champagne glasses used during the party in act 2. These came from party city. The bottoms were weighted with washers to help keep them from tipping over and my intern and I spray painted them silver so they wouldn’t look empty.

The champagne bottles used during the party in act 2. These came from a local liquor store in Denver and were emptied to be used in the show.

The vodka shot glasses used during the party in act 2. These came from amazon.

The vodka bottles used during act 2. These were originally whiskey bottles that I bought from the liquor store in Denver because they matched our breakaway bottles. They were relabeled by my intern.

The breakaway vodka bottle used in act 2. These came from Stage Lighting store. I added the labels to match the non breakaway bottles and added some extra mod podge and tape to help keep it from shattering too much on stage.

The money used to pay certain partygoers in act 2. These images of Austrian money were found on the internet, printed out, and glued together by my intern and myself.

The fan used by Adele during the party while she is pretending to be an actress and not a maid.

The prop firearm used by Prince Orlofsky in act 2. These were inspected by our fight coordinator and technical director, both of which had proper firearm training. The barrel was stuffed with ear plugs and they were only handled by the proper performers and backstage personnel.

The prison wardens desk used in act 3. This came with the Virginia Opera rental.

The bench used in outside of the prison cells in act 3. This came with the Virginia Opera rental.

The coat rack used in the prison in act 3. This came from our stock and was painted by my intern to match the desk and the bench.

The coffee pot, metal cups, and metal plates used to serve the prisoners breakfast. The pot came from our stock, the mugs and plates came from amazon.

The very tall filing cabinet used in the prison. This came with the Virginia Opera rental.

The blanket that Frank, the prison warden, pulls out of the filing cabinet to use to sleep after returning from the party. This came from our stock and was cut to a smaller size by me.

This pillow was also pulled out of the filing cabinet by Frank in order to sleep.

This teddy bear is also pulled out of one of the filing cabinet drawers.

This alarm clock is the final item that Frank pulls out of the filing cabinet drawers. It came from eBay.

The trash can that sits next to the desk in the prison. Frank knocks the alarm clock into it.

The lamp that sits on the desk in the prison. This came from our stock and was made to work by our electricians.

The jail keys used by Frank and his jailer Frosch. These were made by putting keys found in prop stock onto a ring.
